World Naked BR VancIt’s clear that as a blogger, it is often required to participate in activities, visiting places as unusual as others.
It was with a great openness of mind that I attended last June 12 in Vancouver, the World Naked Bike Ride. The concept of this event was simple: being naked to protest against the influence of motorized vehicles on the urban lifestyle and thus the dependence on oil … One moment … naked ??!  Yes, participants have been asked to undress completely or partially according to personal wishes and to ride their bikes across the streets of downtown Vancouver.

Feelings:
Offended? No, not at all ! These persons have freedom of speech and expression that could be envied, and everyone doing what he wants with his body !

Atonished ? Yes ! I was suprised by the number of people who participated and obviously by the number of the spectators !

I asked myself about the impact of this kind of  event to the benefit of the urban cycling. Well, for me this event didn’t give me more reason to have a bike, I was already aware about it. I think this kind of events only exists to make people talk about them.

I went to Chinatown a couple of weeks ago…  It’s a beautiful place in Vancouver near Vancouver’s downtown, and very picturesque.
My visit made me remember my trip in China two years ago: food stands , street vendors, clothes stores, souvenir shops… When we were in Yueyang (China) we had used to eat in a street near the university like the one I saw in China Town, … I have had my best and also my worst experiences in this street : we spent so much time there !!
The night market is The place if you want to experience Chinese Bargaining subtleties !  On this, my current Chinese language teacher wants to take me there again so I can practise my Chinese !!   I can’t wait to be there !! lol

For my first paper in l’Express du Pacifique, I had to write about the little India, also known in Vancouver as the Punjabi market. This place is one of the most important that you should visit when you are in Vancouver. Restaurants, fabrics stores, jewelry stores, all remind you the hindu culture.

It’s always for me an awesome moment to be there. I have been there a couple of time before and also during the Baisakhi Festival. The hindu community is very important in Vancouver and this festival was a great occasion for them to be together and celebrate. As I described in my article, the colors, the suits, the jewels were so beautiful. This overjoyed atmosphere really made me miss my country a lot.

In addition, hindu’s gastronomy was a quite familiar to me, we also use various spices in our dishes !  However, you fell like there is someting that left you unsatisfied, you would like to see more about this place: there was such a bit contrast between regular days and the festival day. During my research for the article, I found different papers about the dynamism of the hindu community in the suburbs like Richmond and Surrey. Unfortunatly, I think the market his losing his popularity despite its big potential.

However, this place is very amazing and I would recommand it to everybody !

Let’s go to China town !

For my first visit in the downtown, I was with Nadia and Jeremy. They are so nice and I don’t think my life here would be the same without them ! thanks guys for your support !

Of course Vancouver was The place ! This city is so amazing: easy public transport, many parks, various beaches… My next posts will be about some great places that I discovered !

Keep in touch !

I have never thought that I would live this experience when I decided to move to Vancouver. The Olympics Games were so interesting and entertaining !

The atmosphere in the city was so enjoyable  : people from countries all around the world and various free activities !

Being newcomer  in a country (city) makes you feel apprehensive and it’s never easy to find your place, the right one and to feel comfortable with people. Nevertheless, the olympics time was the best timing and a good transition for me.

I was a volunteer at the francophone place and I think it was one of the greatest moment of my life !! I met one of my favourite singers and I took a picture with him, what may I ask else ? :) By the way, I improved my french :)

Hello world !

Since I moved to Vancouver, I did so many things !
I met great people, I learned about my strengths, my weaknesses, my fears, my hopes through many situations…
So far I really like this city and I am still thinking that I made the right decision !

For now, I have many projects: improve my english, (re) learn mandarin, learn to play guitar, draw my feelings…

This year (and the others) will be mine, I start living ! Let’s do it !  :)
